Report Designer
The Report Designer is a WYSIWYG editor for building professional inspection reports. It provides drag-and-drop element placement, real-time PDF preview, and a 50-state undo/redo stack.
Note
Screenshots show QuickInspect. YachtInspect has the same Report Designer with marine-focused terminology.
13 Element Types
The Report Designer supports 13 element types split into two categories: adjustable elements you configure freely, and predefined elements that pull structured data automatically.
Adjustable Elements (7)
Text
Rich text blocks with inline formatting: bold, italic, underline, and text colors. Use these for narrative content, descriptions, observations, and recommendations.
Heading
Section headings that are automatically included in the Table of Contents. Use headings to structure your report into logical sections.
Image
Single image elements with customizable width and height dimensions. Use for standalone photos, diagrams, or company logos.
HTML Template
Reusable HTML content blocks. These reference saved HTML Templates (see Templates) and render HTML content directly in the report.
Divider
A horizontal separator line. Use dividers to visually separate report sections.
Table
A configurable data table with the following options:
- Rows and columns: set any number of rows and columns
- Header rows: designate one or more rows as table headers
- Calculations: built-in calculation support for numeric cells
- Currency formatting: format numeric values as currency
- Total rows: automatic sum/total rows
- Border styles: bordered, striped, minimal, or none
Table of Contents
Generates an automatic table of contents from all heading elements. Available styles: numbered, bulleted, or plain.
Predefined Elements (4)
These elements pull structured data from the inspection and render it automatically.
Cover Page
Displays vessel/product information, company logo, report date, and report number. The content is populated from the inspection and company profile.
Findings Table
A structured table of inspection findings with extensive configuration:
- Configurable columns: id, title, status, priority, system, location, description, date, comments, cost, overview, detail, images
- Filtering: filter displayed findings by status, priority, date range, system, or title
- Image thumbnails: inline thumbnail images per finding
- Comments: display finding comments
- Currency formatting: cost column with currency display
Executive Summary
An auto-generated overview of all findings containing:
- Status breakdown chart
- Priority breakdown chart
- System breakdown
- Total count metrics
- Custom summary text field
Signature Block
Captures a digital signature rendered as a PNG image with transparency. Includes fields for name, date, and title below the signature.
Image Table
Displays photos in a grid layout with these options:
- Column layouts: 1, 2, 3, or 4 columns
- Image numbers: automatic numbering for each image
- Descriptions: text caption per image
- Finding location: shows which finding each image relates to
Product Info Table
Displays vessel/product metadata with selectable fields:
- Available fields: name, manufacturer, propulsion, production date, power, status, custom user product ID
- Layout: two-column or single-column
- Optional product image
WYSIWYG Editor
The editor provides a visual canvas where you arrange elements exactly as they will appear in the final PDF.
Drag and Drop
All 13 element types can be dragged from the element palette onto the canvas. Reorder elements by dragging them to a new position.
Real-Time PDF Preview
A live preview shows how the final PDF will render, including pagination, headers, footers, and element positioning.
Undo / Redo
The editor maintains a 50-state undo/redo stack. Every action (add, move, delete, edit) is recorded and can be reversed or replayed.
Tip
Use undo liberally when experimenting with layouts. The 50-state stack gives you plenty of room to try different arrangements.
