Using Templates
Templates let you start reports with a pre-built structure instead of designing from scratch. There are two kinds of templates in QuickInspect and YachtInspect: Report Templates and HTML Templates.
Note
Screenshots show QuickInspect. YachtInspect has the same template system with marine-focused terminology.
Report Templates
Report Templates define the full layout of a report -- which elements appear, in what order, and with what default content. When you create a new report from a template, the entire structure is loaded into the Report Designer for you to customize.
System Templates vs. Company Templates
| System Templates | Company Templates | |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | QuickInspect / YachtInspect | Your company's Key Users or Admins |
| Visibility | Available to all users | Available to all members of your company |
| Editable | No (read-only) | Yes, by Key Users and Admins |
| Purpose | Standard starting points for common report types | Customized layouts matching your company's workflows and branding |
Tip
System templates are a good starting point. Once you know what your company needs, a Key User or Admin can create company-specific templates with your branding and preferred structure.
Selecting a Template When Creating a Report
- Open the Reports tab and create a new report.
- The template picker appears, showing available templates.
- Use the report type filter to narrow results by type: photo, progress, inspection, or final.
- Tap a template to select it.
- The Report Designer opens with the template's layout pre-loaded.
From there, you can add, remove, or rearrange any element in the Report Designer. Changes you make to the report do not affect the original template.
Warning
Creating a report from a template creates a copy of that layout. Editing the report does not change the template itself.
Report Types
Templates are categorized by report type:
- Photo -- Focused on image documentation
- Progress -- Tracking project progress over time
- Inspection -- Standard inspection workflow
- Final -- Completed inspection or survey report
HTML Templates
HTML Templates are reusable content blocks that you can insert into any report as an element. Unlike Report Templates (which define an entire report layout), HTML Templates define a single piece of content -- such as a disclaimer, a standard introduction paragraph, or a safety notice.
How HTML Templates Work
- In the Report Designer, add an HTML Template element from the palette.
- Select which HTML Template to use from your available templates.
- The content is inserted into your report at that position.
HTML Templates are useful for content that appears in many different reports, such as:
- Legal disclaimers or terms
- Standard methodology descriptions
- Company boilerplate text
- Recurring safety warnings
Tip
If you find yourself copying the same text block into multiple reports, create an HTML Template for it. Update the template once and every future report that uses it gets the latest version.
