Photo Documentation
Photos in QuickInspect and YachtInspect are stored as file records linked to the work they document. Each photo has a title, a short and a long description, and a custom sort index for ordering.
Note
Attaching, annotating and viewing photos works in both apps. Sections tagged with an app apply to that app only.
Attaching Photos
QuickInspect QuickInspect only
Photos can be attached to:
- Actions: before-and-after evidence for a corrective action
- Incidents: photos of the scene, the damage or the conditions
- Inspections: evidence added with Upload Image while answering the checklist
- Assets: images of the equipment record
YachtInspect YachtInspect only
Photos can be linked to:
- Findings: document evidence for a specific finding
- Vessels (products): attach images to a vessel record
- Reports: include images directly in a report via image elements
Each photo record stores a title, short description, long description, and custom sort index so you can control the display order.
Photo Gallery
The Gallery shows a browsable grid of photos. In QuickInspect you open it from More › Records › Gallery; in YachtInspect from the Lists tab. From the gallery you can:
- Browse thumbnails in a scrollable grid
- Tap a photo to open the detail view
- Reorder photos using the custom sort index
Image Detail View
The Image Details screen shows a single image at full size with its metadata. From this view you can:
- View the photo title and descriptions
- Edit the title, short description, and long description
- Analyse the image with AI
- Toggle the noShowForReports flag (YachtInspect, see below)
Image Annotation & Markup
Both apps include built-in drawing tools that let you annotate photos directly on the device. From the image detail view, tap Annotate image to open the annotation editor. Available tools include:
- Freehand drawing -- sketch arrows, circles, or highlights over the image
- Color selection -- choose from multiple colors to make annotations stand out
- Undo/redo -- step back through your drawing actions
- Save -- annotations are saved as part of the image and appear in exported PDFs
Tip
Use annotations to highlight defects, mark measurement points, or draw attention to specific areas in your inspection photos. Annotated images are included as-is in PDF exports -- and in YachtInspect in Photo Reports.
Marking Hazards With AI QuickInspect only
AI can mark the hazards in a photo for you: switch on Mark hazards on the photo when you analyse it, and every hazard it finds gets a numbered box in your own risk matrix colours, explained in the photo's short description. The marked photo replaces the original, which can be restored at any time — and the hazards can be turned into corrective actions in one tap.

Excluding Images from Reports YachtInspect only
Each photo has a noShowForReports flag. When enabled, that image is excluded from any generated report output (PDF Report, Photo Report, etc.) even though it remains attached to the finding or vessel.
Tip
Use the noShowForReports flag for reference photos you want to keep on file but do not need in client-facing reports.
Photo Reports YachtInspect only
A dedicated Photo Report generation action creates a report focused entirely on images. This produces a PDF with all qualifying photos (those without the noShowForReports flag) organized by finding.
Image Quality in PDFs
- QuickInspect QuickInspect only -- when you export a record as PDF, the export options include an Image Quality slider: lower it for a smaller file, raise it for sharper photos.
- YachtInspect YachtInspect only -- images are automatically compressed for report generation to a maximum of 1200 x 1200 pixels, JPEG, 80% quality. This keeps file sizes manageable and speeds up PDF generation without significant visible quality loss.
Image Caching for PDF Generation YachtInspect only
During PDF generation, images are cached to avoid re-downloading or re-processing the same photo multiple times. This is especially important for large reports with many images, where parallel asset loading and caching significantly reduce generation time.
Note
PDF generation uses parallel asset loading combined with image caching to handle reports with large numbers of photos efficiently.
