HSE Awards
Recognise the people who speak up and fix things before anyone gets hurt. Nominations run a real review chain with scored criteria, so recognition is defensible rather than a popularity contest.
Note
Anyone can nominate. Who reviews and who gives final approval is controlled per role in your company's feature access matrix.
Five categories
A nomination is filed under one of:
- Safety Leadership
- Environmental Excellence
- Near-Miss Reporting
- Innovation & Improvement
- Teamwork
Near-miss reporting is there on purpose: the behaviour hardest to encourage is the one where somebody reports a problem that never became an accident, and therefore never shows up in any statistic.
The review chain
A nomination doesn't jump straight to a decision:
Pending department review
→ Pending subcontractor review
→ Pending Key User approval
→ Approved → Paid out
A rejection at any step ends the flow. Both routing steps are optional — a nomination with no department or no subcontractor simply skips the step that doesn't apply, rather than stalling.
Each transition is written inside a transaction, so two reviewers acting on the same step at the same time can't overwrite each other's review or silently drop a history entry.
Scored, not vibes
At each review step the reviewer scores the nomination from 1 to 5 on:
- Impact — what actually changed as a result
- Initiative — was this asked for, or did they act
- Role-model behaviour — would you want the rest of the crew doing this
That's what makes an award defensible when someone asks why one person won and another didn't.
Winners and certificates
Per award period you pick a winner, record the incentive paid, and export a branded certificate.
The audit trail
Every status change is kept in the nomination's history with the actor and the date. Nominations left sitting without oversight are flagged automatically, so a nomination can't quietly die in someone's queue — which, for a recognition programme, is the failure mode that kills it.
