Photo Documentation Tutorial
Photos are a core part of inspection reports in QuickInspect and YachtInspect. This tutorial covers attaching photos to findings, browsing the photo gallery, viewing image details, generating photo reports, excluding images from reports, and image compression.
Attaching Photos to Findings
- Open a finding from the Findings tab (the second tab in the bottom navigation).
- In the finding detail view, look for the photo/file attachment section.
- Tap to add a photo -- you can capture a new image with your camera or select one from your device gallery.
- Each attached photo (FindingsFile) has the following fields:
- Title: a name for the photo
- Description: text describing what the photo shows
- Sort index: controls the display order of photos within the finding
Photos can also be linked to products and reports, not just findings.
Tip
Give each photo a clear title and description. This information appears in generated reports and makes it easier for others to understand the context.
Photo Gallery
The ImageGallery displays all photos associated with a product, finding, or report in a grid layout. You can scroll through thumbnails and tap any image to open the full detail view.
Viewing Image Details
Tap a photo in the gallery to open the ImageDetailsPage. This view shows:
- The full-size image
- Title and description fields
- The finding, product, or report the image is linked to
- Options to edit the title, description, or sort order
Excluding Images from Reports
Sometimes you need to keep a photo in the system for reference but exclude it from the generated report. Each photo has a noShowForReports option:
- Open the image detail view.
- Toggle the "exclude from reports" option on.
- The photo remains attached to the finding but will not appear in any generated PDF, Photo Report, or Final Report.
Note
Excluded photos are still visible in the app's gallery and detail views. They are only hidden from exported reports.
Creating Photo Reports
A Photo Report is a dedicated export type that presents all photos in a structured layout:
- Open your report in the Report Designer (via the Reports tab).
- Tap Export and select Photo Report.
- The system generates a PDF containing all included photos (those not marked as excluded) in an organized layout.
Photo Reports are useful when you need a standalone document focused on visual evidence.
Image Compression
To keep file sizes manageable, the app automatically compresses images during PDF generation:
- Maximum resolution: 1200 x 1200 pixels
- Format: JPEG
- Quality: 80%
This compression is applied when photos are used in PDF generation and exports. The original image file on your device is not modified.
Using the Image Table Element
In the Report Designer, the Image Table predefined element displays photos in a grid layout within your report:
- Columns: 1 to 4 columns
- Numbering: optional sequential numbers on each image
- Descriptions: optional description text below each image
Add an Image Table element from the Element Palette, then configure the column count and display options in the Properties Panel.
