YachtInspect: Your First Vessel Inspection
This tutorial walks you through creating your first vessel inspection finding in YachtInspect, from account creation to documenting your first observation on a vessel.
What You Will Learn
- Creating a YachtInspect account
- Navigating the app using the five bottom tabs
- Creating or selecting a vessel (product)
- Documenting your first finding with photos and location data
- Viewing and reviewing finding details
Prerequisites
- A smartphone or tablet with YachtInspect installed
- An email address for account registration
Step 1: Create Your Account
- Open YachtInspect on your device.
- Tap Sign Up on the login screen.
- Enter your email address and choose a password.
- Confirm your email by tapping the verification link sent to your inbox.
- Log in with your new credentials.
Tip
After your first login, YachtInspect will guide you through an onboarding walkthrough that highlights the main areas of the app. You can reset these walkthroughs later from Profile > Reset Walkthroughs.
Step 2: Understand the Navigation
YachtInspect uses five bottom tabs for navigation:
- Home -- Your dashboard with an overview of recent activity across your vessels.
- Findings -- Browse and create findings (defects, observations, maintenance items).
- Reports -- View your generated survey and inspection reports.
- Lists -- Access checklists and vessel data.
- Profile -- Manage your account settings, language, dark mode, and more.
Step 3: Create or Select a Vessel
Before creating findings, you need a vessel (product) to work with.
- Tap the Profile tab at the bottom right.
- Tap Change Project.
- If you already have a vessel registered, select it from the list. If not, create a new one by tapping the add button.
- Enter the vessel details (for example, "M/Y Sea Breeze") and save.
Note
Each vessel functions as a project in YachtInspect. Team members assigned to a vessel can view and collaborate on its findings and reports.
Step 4: Create Your First Finding
-
Tap the Findings tab at the bottom of the screen.
-
Tap the button to create a new finding.
-
Fill in the following details:
- Title -- A short description of the defect or observation (e.g., "Corrosion on port hull below waterline").
- Description -- Provide additional context about the condition, defect, or observation.
- Status -- Select the initial status. The available statuses are:
- Open
- To be reviewed
- Closed
- Accepted as is
- Cancelled
- Shipyard confirmed rectification
- Location -- Use the 5-level location hierarchy to pinpoint where on the vessel the finding is (e.g., Hull > Port Side > Below Waterline > Frame 12 > Specific Spot). GPS coordinates and NFC tags can also be used for location tagging.
- Photos -- Tap the photo button to attach images from your camera or gallery. Photos are essential for documenting vessel conditions.
-
Save the finding.
Tip
You can also add corrective measures, assign due dates, and leave comments on findings. For vessel inspections, documenting corrective measures and shipyard communication is particularly important for tracking rectification progress.
Step 5: View Finding Details
- After saving, you will be taken back to the Findings list.
- Tap on your newly created finding to open its detail view.
- Here you can review all the information you entered, including:
- The title, description, and current status
- Attached photos
- Location data on the vessel
- Any comments or corrective measures
- You can edit the finding at any time by tapping the edit button.
Step 6: Explore the Dashboard
- Tap the Home tab to return to your dashboard.
- The dashboard provides an overview of your vessel, including finding counts and recent activity.
