Templates Tutorial
Templates let you save and reuse report layouts, speeding up report creation. QuickInspect and YachtInspect support two types of templates: Report Templates (full editor layouts) and HTML Templates (reusable content blocks). This tutorial covers both.
The Template Picker
When you create a new report or want to apply a layout, the Template Picker opens:
- Browse available templates, filtered by report type (photo, progress, inspection, or final).
- Use the search field to find templates by name.
- System (global) templates appear first, followed by company-specific templates.
- Templates are sorted by date, with the most recent at the top.
- Tap a template to apply it to your report.
Tip
Use the type filter to narrow down templates quickly. For example, select "Inspection" to see only inspection report layouts.
System vs. Company Templates
There are two scopes for report templates:
- System (global) templates: Built-in templates available to all users across all companies. These provide standard layouts for common report types.
- Company-specific templates: Created by your team and visible only within your company. These reflect your organization's standards and branding.
Report Types
Each report template is associated with a type:
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Photo | Photo-focused reports with image grids |
| Progress | Progress/status update reports |
| Inspection | Full inspection reports with findings |
| Final | Final deliverable reports |
Creating and Saving Report Templates
Report templates store the full editorState -- a JSON representation of all elements, their positions, properties, and layout settings.
- Build your report layout in the Report Designer.
- When satisfied with the layout, save it as a template.
- Set the template name, report type, and whether it is shared (visible to your team) or default (applied automatically to new reports).
Key template properties:
- isDefault: When enabled, this template is automatically applied to new reports.
- isShared: When enabled, other users in your company can see and use this template.
- AI generation prompt history: Templates store the prompts used during AI-assisted generation for reference.
Note
Only Key Users and Admins can create company-wide templates. Standard and Free users can save personal templates.
HTML Templates
HTML Templates are reusable content blocks that you can insert into reports via the HTML Template element in the Report Designer.
Each HTML Template has:
- Title: a descriptive name
- Content: the HTML markup for the block
- Company scope: HTML Templates are company-specific
HTML Templates are useful for standardized sections that appear across multiple reports, such as disclaimers, terms and conditions, or company-specific header blocks.
Sharing Templates
- Toggle the isShared property to make a template available to all users in your company.
- System templates are shared globally and cannot be edited.
- Company templates can be edited by Key Users and Admins.
